A great weekend in Neskaupstašur. A story..

Looking from the east into Neskaupstašur.

When we arrived on saturday the wind was blowing very hard. It was clear to me, that the weather would be going to change. When we arrived at the camping ground it was hard to put up the tent at the free-campsite. The next day was a quite different. A very beautifull hot day with a complete blue sky! The temperature was approximately 23 degrees celcius. When I phoned home, my mother told my that in Holland it was 36 degrees. I was glad that I was in Iceland!

Neskaupstašur is the lagerst town in the East-fjords with approximately 1700 inhabitants. The town is situated along the nordfjordur. In the town is divided in two sections, in the center you can see the late 19th century houses. But at the eastern side of the town new bungalows have been build. You see a few a these bungalows at the picture above. At the western end of the town you see the harbour and it's fishing related industry. Most off the houses are build along the passing road. On the picture you look from the east-site into the town. The road leads here to an dead-end at the sea.

At Sunday we noticed the runtour of Neskaupstadur. The people drive from the town-centre to the east site off the town (on the picture you sea an grey jeep coming). Here the take a look at the camping ground and sea and drive back into the town. They do this not one a day, but many times. One guy with a pickup truck was an truly exception. He drove around three times per hour!

At Sunday we made a trip along the north-side of the fjord towards the sea. When we reached the sea we tried to clime the mountain ridge. But it was an difficult and dangerous job. The clime was to steep and therefore we decided to aboard the clime. We went to the open sea water and enjoyed the view at the hot day. We could sea the most eastern point of Iceland (Baršsnes). We enjoyed the loneliness.
