At 180 kilometres in lenght, Kangerlussuaq or by the danisch name Sondre Stromfjord is western greenland second largest fjord. At the head of the fjord lies the airport.
The airport wich is now most important and the international airport of Greenland was once a american airbase. In oktober 1992 when the cold war had ended the airbase was handed over to Greenland.
The airport has a long runway of 3200 meters in lenght, so this is the only airport in Greenland where big planes can land.
